KUMAR SANGAKKARA One of the greatest players of Sri Lanka retires from International Cricket.This wicketkeeper-batsman is most Class batsman ever played for Sri Lanka in all formats of cricket.This prolific player in ODI, Sangakkara has scored more than 14,000 runs in the 50-over format and 12,000 runs in Test format by combining his elegant technique with hitting.He started his career in july 2000 in ODI format and aug 2000 in Test format while he was LAW student.He is captain of Sri Lanka team in all formats from 2009 ICC World Twenty20 hosted by England in June. Sri Lanka became runners-up in the series after winning all the game in group and knock-out stages and being defeated by Pakistan in the final.After INDIA tour of Sri Lanka in 2011,Sri Lanka being beaten by India in Test series 2–0 and ODI series 3–1,And then in 2011 world cup Sri Lanka reached the final of the tournament and defeated by INDIA in final , he resigned for captaincy. In 2011 he was named the ODI Cricketer of the Year at the ICC awards ceremony. Sangakkara retired from ODI cricket after 2015 world cup.
Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara was born on October 27, 1977 in Matale, His father is Swarnakumara Sangakkara He is youngest of four children in his family.He had an elder brother and two elder sisters Thushari and Saranga, and an elder brother: Vemindra, all who have achieved national level medals during their school-life. With their inspiration SANGAKKARA started playing different types of sports like badminton, tennis, swimming, table tennis and cricket in school. He grew up in Kandy, As their family house is close to Tennis Club his favourite game from childhood is Tennis.
